RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta is pleased to announce seven new programme series in its current scheduling reshuffle.

The changes take place from Monday 5th February 2007, commencing with a new west of Ireland magazine programme Iris Aniar, Mondays – Thursdays at 9.15am, which will cover issues and events of particular interest and relevance to listeners in the west of Ireland and in the Ráth Cairn Gaeltacht, Co. Meath.

Stories covered will range from fishing to housing and planning, to education matters, to community development, entertainment, the arts and other topical issues.

Listeners are welcome to contact the programme and the presenter is Ciarán Ó Fátharta.

Seán Bán Breathnach presents Friday’s edition of the programme – SBB Aniar – in which he is joined by studio guests in a review of the week’s major news stories.  The programme also features music and competitions with great prizes to be won.

A new youth driven series, i-Club, covering topics of interest to second and third level students – in their own words – begins on Wednesday 7th February at 8pm.

Items covered on the programme range from debs preparations, lifestyle and sports, health and beauty, gigs, concerts and entertainment to school and college life.

Presented by Ben Ó Faoláin the programme provides a forum for discussion, debate, fun and competitions and listeners are invited to text/email the programme.  The producer is Bríd Ní Chualáin.

A new feature programme on education matters, Céim ar Chéim which covers topics ranging from preschooling to life long learning commences on Thursday 8th February at 10.15am.  The education sector has seen many developments at all levels in recent times and now reaches and involves all members of society at some stage of their lives.  The presenter/producer is Sorcha Ní Chéilleachair.

Wind up or down for the weekend with Dónall Mac Ruairí’s finger and toe tapping choice of music in Spleodar Ceoil, Friday mornings at 10.30am.  The programme is presented from RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta’s Donegal studios by musician Dónall Mac Ruairí.  Just the thing to get you in that Friday mood …

SBB presents a new hour long music documentary Siar agus Aniar, on Saturday nights at 11pm, from the 10th February onwards.  The programme features music greats of the past thirty years or so, Irish and otherwise, including The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Credence Clearwater Revival, The Stone Roses, Motown and much more.

“It’s what I’ve always wanted..” enthuses Seán Bán Breathnach as he prepares to present his first ever programme in the ANOCHT fm slot.

And finally, featuring the best of contemporary music, including tracks that don’t often get mainstream airplay, Ben Ó Faoláin’s Oíche go Maidin (Sunday nights from 11th February) also showcases up and coming bands.

Commenting on these developments, Edel Ní Chuireáin, Ceannaire RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta stated –

RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta operates in a highly competitive environment with ever increasing choices available to our audience, particularly during peak morning time.   Morning weekday schedule developments are primarily directed at our west of Ireland listenership while new programmes i-Club and Oíche go Maidin target younger audiences.  We are pleased to announce Céim ar Chéim – a new feature programme on education matters and two new music programmes, Siar agus Aniar and Spleodar an Cheoil .  These developments are being phased in gradually as part of our strategy to further improve our overall service to listeners.  Recent developments to our early morning programmes Nead na Fuiseoige and Adhmhaidin have proven successful and we hope to announce more developments later in the year.”

RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta’s scheduling developments commence on Monday 5th February
