Pat Kenny is back at the helm of The Late Late Show, flushed with the success of the previous year when the show officially had its most successful season in years, attracting more viewers than at any time since 2000.
Now in its 44th year, The Late Late Show is back on air on Friday, 1 September.
Host Pat Kenny is looking forward to another year of topical, agenda-setting entertainment. “The beauty of The Late Late Show is that it always features the unexpected – and last season was full of surprises – you never knew what was going to happen next,” says Pat. “Irish people are genuinely interested in current and topical events. We want to be informed, and yet The Late Late Show can deliver a burning issue one minute and Colin Farrell or Rod Stewart the next.”
Not only is The Late Late Show the world’s longest running chat-show, it’s also uniquely Irish, says Pat. “That desire for an evening’s entertainment is what sets The Late Late Show and the Irish audience apart from our contemporaries in the UK. It is great to see a programme like The Late Late that is both topical and entertaining at number one in the ratings again and again, year in, year out.”
And while The Late Late Show won’t be revealing guests for the opening night in advance, Pat can promise us “more of our winning formula. We have some of the biggest names in showbiz and comedy lined up side by side with the story of the day.”
