Rachael English to pursue new avenues at RTÉ Radio
After six years presenting Ireland’s most popular drive time radio programme, 5-7 Live, Rachael English has announced today her plans to seek new opportunities in broadcasting within RTÉ Radio.
Speaking today Rachael said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed presenting a busy and exciting daily radio programme for RTÉ Radio 1 over the past six years, but I feel the time has come to try something new.”
“I will be working on several new projects for RTÉ Radio over the coming year, which will be announced in due course, but this move won’t take place until later in the summer, so for now I’m concentrating on today’s programme”.
Rachael English joined RTÉ as a reporter in the newsroom in 1991 before joining 5-7 Live in 2000. During her tenure as presenter the programme reached record high audience figures.
She has covered elections, Olympics and every major news event over the past ten years. RTÉ Radio 1’s 5-7 Live has won numerous awards in her time as presenter.
Speaking after Rachael announced her plans, John McMahon, Editor of Current Affairs said “Rachael has been a stalwart of our daily schedule for six years and we will be sorry to see her go from 5-7 Live.
“However we are very excited about the new opportunities that we will be exploring with Rachael over the coming weeks and look forward to hearing much more of her on RTÉ Radio long into the future.”
RTÉ Radio 1’s 5-7 Live is Ireland’s most listened to drive-time programme with an average daily audience of over 200,000. Rachael will continue to present the show until the end of the summer.
