RTÉ Radio 1 Nationwide Talent Search
‘I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair’, ‘Oklahama’ ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’
Have you ever wanted to perform your favourite musical numbers on the national stage? Well now is your chance!
On 28th May 2006, the RTÉ Radio 1 All Ireland Mystery Musical will be staged in the Helix, Dublin and we would like the leading parts in this musical to be played by you.
The search to find Ireland’s most talented performers is now on!
Auditions will take place from November 2005 – March 2006 at 18 venues around the country.
To be in with a chance of taking part all you need do is to turn up at the venue most convenient to you. (See full list of venues below). Those auditioning for the principal roles will be given scripts to read and asked to sing a song from a musical of their choice.
As well as the principals, we are looking for 100 talented singers to make up the chorus line.
Baritones, sopranos and mezzo-sopranos are all welcome to come along and perform a song of their choice from a musical at the auditions.
The successful cast and chorus, as well as the name of the musical to be performed, will be revealed when auditions end in March 2006. Those chosen must make themselves available for rehearsals throughout the month of May. (Details will be available at the auditions and also on www.rte.ie/radio1/mysterymusical.)
The team that brought you last year’s popular All-Ireland Active Age Talent Showcase are also behind this year’s Mystery Musical and Kevin Hough, the popular RTÉ Radio 1 presenter and well-known entertainer, will host the auditions around the country.
Speaking about the Mystery Musical Kevin Hough said:
“This is going to be a much bigger event than last year’s Active Age Talent Contest as we have a much wider age group taking part. Musicals are still as popular as ever and when we reveal the name of this one at the end of March I know that all our chosen performers will be thrilled. They are really going to enjoy the music and the thrill of performing with our RTÉ Concert Orchestra.”
Kevin Hough’s accompanist at the auditions will be Andy O’Callaghan, while the Musical Director for the Helix performance is Gearóid Grant. The coordinator for the event is Geralyn Aspill. The performance will be recorded for broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1.
