RTÉ Television looks forward to bringing viewers
deferred coverage of Heineken Cup matches involving
Ireland’s provincial teams, both home and away, from
2006 to 2010, as recently agreed with ERC (European
Rugby Cup Ltd). In addition, RTÉ also has the rights to
broadcast a comprehensive highlights package. This
means that RTÉ will offer coverage of all Heineken Cup
matches in the tournament over the four-year period.
All matches will be shown on RTÉ Two.
RTÉ will continue to broadcast the Munster and Leinster
home pool games live for the 2005/06 season. RTÉ does
not have the rights, under the recently signed
agreement, to broadcast live matches between the
2006/07 and 2010 seasons.
Glen Killane, Head of Sport, RTÉ TV, commented on the
deal: “We are happy to be continuing a relationship of
tens years with ERC as broadcast partners to the
Heineken Cup. Obviously we’re disappointed that we
won’t be broadcasting the Heineken Cup live from the
end of the coming season. But we have made great
efforts to ensure that the public has access to these
games free-to-air and we’re very happy to offer the
audience the deferred Irish games – both home and away.”
