Opera Night Bernard Clarke brings us Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor a tragic opera in three acts. Diana Damrau is Lucia, Charles Castronovo is Sir Edgardo, Ludovic Tezier is Lord Enrico Ashton, Taylor Stayton is Lucia's bridegroom, Kwangchul Youn is a chaplain, Peter Hoare is a huntsman and Rachael Lloyd is Lucia's maid. EVELYN GRANT’S WEEKEND DRIVE There is never a shortage of musical royalty on Weekend Drive. This week, tracks from flautist Emmanuel Pahud's album of music from the court of Frederick the Great; Handel's Zadok the Priest - written for the coronation of George II of England; and a piece attributed to Henry the Eighth - Pastimes in Good Company. Nova Nova is about new music, chronicling what's radical and what's conservative, who's established and who's in the avant garde. A blend of contemporary classical, electronic and experimental music. Bernard features works from young Irish composers Neil Quigley, Amanda Feery, Raych V Corcoran and Hugh Lynch and Dublin poet Karl Parkinson reads a short piece from his new novel The Blocks, to be published by the New Binary Press on July 29th. NIALL CARROLL’S LUNCHTIME FAVOURITES Niall brings you his usual choices from midday before taking to the stage at 1.05 to present a live lunchtime concert from the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra's summer season at the National Concert Hall. This week Soprano Jennifer Davis sings some of opera's most enchanting arias. Gavin Maloney conducts. RTÉ lyric fm, Tuesday 26th July, 12.00pm

THE BLUE OF THE NIGHT WITH CARL CORCORAN Michael McHale joins Carl for a Blue Room Session on Wednesday. He'll perform piano music including a Cadenza he's written for a Mozart Piano Concerto and chats about his early musical influences including a gorgeous illustration of Bill Evans' Peace Piece. MARTY IN THE MORNING Marty in the Morning is off to Italy, the home of opera, and this year will experience two festivals; the Verona Opera Festival for a production of Verdi's La Traviata and the Puccini Festival at Torre del Lago for Madame Butterfly. RTÉ lyric fm, Thursday 28th July, 7.00am

THE LYRIC FEATURE – Wilde Stories 4 Actor Robert Sheehan narrates Wilde Stories, a creative re-imagining of Oscar Wilde through the prism of his fairytales The Happy Prince and Other Stories. The series brings together Irish artists and actors to celebrate and explore the work and life of Oscar Wilde and features interviews with Wilde's grandson Merlin Holland and his biographer Eleanor Fitzsimons. Part 4 brings us The Nightingale and the Rose, a romantic tragedy read by Lauren Coe. The music inspired by the story is Press Closer by composer Michael Gallen. It is performed by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and RTÉ Cór na nÓg with conductor Gavin Maloney and features vocal performances by soloists Rachel Croash and Evan Lawrence.
