GREAT MOMENTS IN CLASSICAL MUSIC Duke Ellington was one of the twentieth century's most creative and innovative musicians. Recognisable onstage as a sharp-suited showman, every inch the charming performer, in his private life he was deeply religious, with a profound knowledge of the Bible. A cathedral commission from the early 1960s allowed him to bring together both sides of his personality; his First Sacred Concert is a musical meditation on Christian faith that calls for everything from jazz big band and choir through to vocal soloists - and even a tap dancer! THE LYRIC CONCERT WITH PAUL HERRIOTT Paul Herriott dips into many of the great festivals from around Europe and tonight is no exception as he brings us a wonderful concert from the Schubertiade in the Angelika Kauffmann Hall, Schwarzenberg where soprano Diana Damrau sings a selection of Schubert Lieder. THE BLUE OF THE NIGHT WITH CARL CORCORAN Acallam na Senórach is a setting by English composer Tarik O'Regan of a 12th Century text about the Fianna warriors Caílte mac Rónán and Oisín, nephew of legendary Fionn Mac Cumhaill. O'Regan adapted the narrative into a one-hour musical setting for solo guitar and chorus which was commissioned and recorded by Chamber Choir Ireland along with guitarist Stewart French. It's under the Blue spotlight all this week. RTÉ lyric fm, Tuesday 25th August, 10.00pm

JAZZ ALLEY Big Band Session: Featuring the Ron Carter Big Band and Carter's compositions, recently recorded with the WDR Big Band. RTÉ lyric fm, Wednesday 26th August, 7.00pm

GRACE NOTES Seamus Begley has West Kerry music in his veins. A former farmer, who preferred his music to his cows, he is now touring the world with his glorious voice, which Martin Hayes described as 'the voice of an angel'. His new album of songs is a delight, and on tonight's programme he chats with Ellen about his life in music. RTÉ lyric fm, Thursday 27th August, 7.00pm

MARTY IN THE MORNING Join the dawn chorus with Marty as he takes the chill out of your early mornings with music, news, weather and travel updates. Claudia Boyle, ahead of her appearance with the RTÉ NSO as part of a blockbuster Tchaikovsky Favourites concert on Friday 4th September, pops in for a chat with Marty about her busy summer singing Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance at English National Opera, directed by film maker Mike Leigh and also her role in Enda Walsh's The Last Hotel at the Edinburgh Festival.
