1.26 million viewers tune-in as the Republic of Ireland’s incredible UEFA EURO 2016 journey comes to an end

An average* of 1.26m viewers watched yesterday’s Round of 16 defeat to France on RTÉ2 as the Republic of Ireland bowed out of UEFA EURO 2016.

A massive 83%** of those watching television at the time were tuned into the game. The audience peaked*** at 1.34m viewers as the game drew to a close. 

Additionally there were 130,300 live streams for the Republic of Ireland v France game on RTÉ Player. This makes Ireland v France the second biggest live game of UEFA EURO 2016 on RTÉ Player after Ireland v Sweden. The live tracker article of yesterday’s game on RTÉ’s online Euro 2016 hub had over 232,500 page impressions.

RTÉ2’s entire UEFA EURO 2016 coverage over the weekend reached**** a cumulative total of 2.11m people.

Yesterday’s game was the highest-rating television programme of the year to date.

UEFA EURO 2016 on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player continues this evening with live, exclusive coverage of England’s Round of 16 clash with tournament surprise-packet Iceland. The programme begins at 7.30pm and Darragh Maloney will be joined by Damien Duff, Dietmar Hamann and Eamon Dunphy with commentary from George Hamilton and Jim Beglin.
