I’ve Got Your Back

A family quiz show, RTÉ 2

Hosted by Simon Delaney

Series 1, episode 9.

“I’ve Got Your Back”, a quiz show where you don’t need to know anything – other than how much your friends and family know!

Each week, young contestants (aged 10-12) will be trying to climb up 8 prize levels on the brand new quiz show “I’ve Got Your Back”.

At each level is a prize, and the higher they go, the better the prize on offer.

At each level, the contestant will get a choice of topics. Once a topic is selected, a question will be asked. Straight forward, right? Well, not quite….

Each contestant will have 4 team mates with them, team mates that they cannot see or talk to. They are friends and family members. And the contestant must decide which of the team mates will answer each question.

So knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the team mates is of critical importance.

As the questions are asked, the audience can see Dad praying he won’t be picked to answer a question on ballet. But will the contestant pick his sister, who is looking very sure of himself?

At any stage they can leave with the prize they have, or they can hand it back and play for something better. But if a team mate gets a question wrong, the contestant leaves empty handed.

Each week 2 contestants will try to climb the prize ladder with the help of their friends and families.

In the ninth show of the series 11 year old Bobby Connolly from Dalkey, Co. Dublin returns to pick up from last week’s show, where he had made it past 5 rounds. Only 3 more questions stand in his way and the top prize.

Bobby goes to Harold Boy’s NS in Dalkey and prides himself on being able to do the Rubik’s Cube in under a minute. He also plays guitar and soccer.

With him is his family:

His dad, Jim. Jim, who works in finance, is an avid climber and he has made it to the summit of Kilimanjaro. He’s now planning to climb Everest.

Also on the team are Bobby’s two sisters, Alex (aged 18) and Shauna (aged 14). Alex is studying for her Leaving Cert and her biggest passion is art. Shauna is just finishing 2nd Year and when not sleeping in, she can be found bossing it on the hockey pitch!

Also on Bobby’s team is his great aunt Mags. She hasn’t had the best of times lately. A few weeks after breaking her foot, she slipped and broke her hip. This was followed by another trip and she broke her arm! But she’s still there to back up her grand-nephew!

Also hoping to walk away with the top prize is 11 year old Laura Macevicute from Newcastle, Co. Dublin. Laura goes to St. Finian’s Primary School in Newcastle. She is originally from Lithuania but moved to Ireland when she was just 1 year old. She loves all things Japanese! She especially loves Japanese music, movies and Pokemon!

With her is her team.

Her mum Rasa Kapralova. Rasa works in the Citywest Hotel. She loves cooking for her family and her favourite dish to make is “Saltibarsciai”, a cold soup made of beetroot, cucumber and bolied eggs. Hmmm…yum?

Also on her team is her second cousin Markas Kostochenko. Markas is 10 years old has made the team due to being a bit of a brainiac. He’s a whiz at science, sports and history. Hopefully he can help Laura climb the prize ladder.

Next up is Markas’ mother, Vilma Antanelyte. She works in Temple St. Children’s Hospital and is praying for a question on Adele! She knows all her songs and can be heard belting out “Hello” when at home.

The fifth member of Laura’s team is family friend Aurelija Stirblyte. She’s known Laura’s mother all of her life and they feel like sisters. Her strong subjects are European geography and the X-Factor!

Can either team make it to the top of the prize ladder?
