THE 1916 CHALLENGE
This programme airs at 12noon and at 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday 2 May.
Programme Description:
6 children travel back in time one hundred years and live in the shoes of 1916 children for 24 hours. We will see them collecting fuel and water, shovelling manure and collecting eggs… and all that before breakfast even. Then its more chores before school: big wet sheets going through a mangle downstairs and smiley face embroidery upstairs. School masters in 1916 were stern and ink pens are a bit messy. Not a good combination for our 1916 children. Playtime after school involves rickety old bikes and a boxcar. Then dinner must be prepared. Tongue, tripe or gizzards anyone? To finish off the experience our children will have a 1916-style sleep over on horsehair mattresses with the wind howling through the cracks in the windows. Yikes! The 1916 Challenge is on.
