NOVA

Bernard Clarke Image Name: Bernard Clarke

Nova sends out its weekly radio distress signal celebrating all that is radiophonic beginning in the last century and ending in this one. Bernard kicks off with the voice of Marconi, the testimony of a survivor from the Titanic and one of Gavin Bryars’ settings of his The Sinking of the Titanic that uses radio waves as an inspiration. You’ll also hear John Cage; Danny McCarthy; a work by Karen Power especially made for Nova and finally the Irish premiere of Serbian composer Svetlana Maras’ Језик (Serbian for language or tongue).  Језик is a composition made of 11 short pieces on the theme of human speech: the very essence of radio.
