INSIDE THE GPO, RTÉ ONE, TUESDAY, APRIL 26TH AT 7pm

After two years and a spend of €10 million, the GPO’s new visitor centre, GPO Witness History finally opens its doors. To mark the occasion, a piece of sculpture by Barbara Knezevic remembering the children who died is unveiled, and Declan O’Rourke shows up to perform the song he wrote in their memory.

On the day of the opening, Mary Geraldine O’Reilly Johnson makes a pilgrimage to the GPO to remember her father, who fought there during the Rising, and was asked by Sean MacDiarmada to find a piece of white cloth for the flag of surrender.

The debate about the bullet holes in the pillars rages on; are they real, the result of acid rain or plain wear and tear; students from first year in Scoil Mhuire in Cabra come to investigate but tour guide, Lorcan Collins has evidence that points to the holes being the result of gun fire.

And finally the flag comes down on the GPO and Inside the GPO!
