Director Lenny Abrahamson is nominated in the 88th Academy Awards for Room starring Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay and written by Irish author Emma Donoghue. It was adapted from the award-winning novel of the same name.

Lenny Abrahamson season on RTÉ2 will celebrate the director’s work by screening three of his best known films starting with What Richard Did which fast-tracked the career of actor Jack Reynor who has since starred in the Transformers franchise. The season continues with Garage starring Pat Shortt and then the much-loved Adam and Paul will play after coverage of the Academy Awards ceremony on RTÉ2 on Monday 29 February.

What Richard Did – Sunday 14 February at 9.30pm 

(2012, Drama) Jack Reynor, Fionn Walton. Director: Lenny Abrahamson. What Richard Did follows Richard Karlsen, golden-boy athlete and undisputed alpha-male of his privileged set of South Dublin teenagers, through the summer between the end of school and the beginning of university. The world is bright and everything seems possible, until one summer night Richard does something that destroys it all and shatters the lives of the people closest to him. Featuring extraordinary performances from its mainly young cast, What Richard Did is a quietly devastating study of a boy confronting the gap between who he thought he was and who he proves to be.

(2007, Drama) Pat Shortt, Anne-Marie Duff. Director: Lenny Abrahamson. Josie (Pat Shortt) has spent 20 years as the caretaker of a crumbling petrol station in small-town Ireland. Despite loneliness and the fact that his neighbours treat him as figure of fun, he always good natured, absurdly optimistic and, in his own peculiar way, happy; he has his place – it might not be great, but it his. Garage is the story of Josie hapless search for intimacy over the course of a summer which sees his little niche threatened and his life changed forever.
