FLEADH CHEOIL

The annual Fleadh Cheoil being staged in Sligo for the second year running has become one of the largest music festivals in Europe. This week’s programme features tunes from the group Trí Tones. Also there’s reels from fiddle player Daire Bracken, Tom Doorley on flute and Donnacha Gough on bodhrán, and we look in at the Under 18 Duet Competition.

Overview

Fleadh Cheoil is a series of six television programmes from the Sligo Fleadh Cheoil presented by John Creedon and Aoibhinn Ní Shuilleabháin.

The annual Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann returned to Sligo for a second consecutive year.

The series will showcase a host of musicians and singers who attended the Fleadh including Kieran Hanrahan, Seamus Begley, John Spillane, Oisín MacDiarmada, Michael Rooney, John Wynne, John McEvoy, Mick, Louise and Michelle Mulcahy, Daire Bracken, Tom Doorley, Dylan Foley, Philip Duffy, Liam Kelly, Damien Stenson, Dan Brouder, Angelina Carberry, Leonard Barry, Matt Cunningham, Gerry O’Connor, Martin Quinn and Caitlín Nic Gabhann.

Among the groups featured are Danú, Boys of the Lough, The Unwanted, The Trí Tones, FourWinds, Seven Glens, Cúig, JigJam and LOKI.

The programmes will also include a visit to Scoil Éigse, the Scoil Éigse Tutors Concert and competitions including The Senior Céilí Band Competition.
