Christmas 2015 on RTÉjr

This Christmas on RTÉjr – on TV, radio, online and on mobile – we have a sensational selection of festive family fun for all our viewers. The schedule runs from 16th -28th December and is stuffed with old classics and new favourites and sprinkled with short films of our viewers at Christmastime.

 

Highlights on television include:

RTÉjr originals include our very own Twigín Christmas panto.  Viewers can tune in on Christmas day for the Twigín gang’s super duper Christmas pantomine.  It’s Cinderella with a Twigín twist! Emma stars as Cinderella, John the Gardener is Prince Charming, Bláithin is the Fairy Godmother, Seamus and Mr. Mess are the ugly sisters and Everyone else is played by Clara!  Join them for fun, laughter, songs and some extra special fairy magic on Christmas Day.

Dig In Diner

Christmas Eve on Dig In Diner is full of drama when Santa stops by seeking help as the Sleigh has broken down it’s all hands on deck and Digger comes to the rescue ensuring all the boys and girls pressies get delivered on time.  Christmas Day, sees another disaster when the garden neighbours realize they’ve forgotten the Christmas pudding. The Diner is closed but Cornsuela is more than willing to make an exception for good neighbours.  Digger decorates the pudding and they all enjoy Christmas Dinner in the diner.

On St. Stephen’s Day it’s Leftovers day at the diner. Santa stops by again and he is sad that he was too busy to eat a Christmas dinner.  No to worry there are plenty of leftovers and Cornsuela cooks up a Christmas Curry.  They all sit down to enjoy a movie on RTÉjr.

 

 

Festive Fun

Sprinkled throughout the schedule this Christmas are short films featuring families and friends enjoying the festive fun – from iceskating to Carol singing to munching on brussel sprouts,  RTÉjr has got the Christmas season well wrapped up.

There will also be special editions of all our viewers’ favourites including Giggle Biz, Dino paws, Hey Duggee, Peter Rabbit , The Octonauts  and Fluffy Gardens plus another chance to see the traditionally drawn fanstasy animation feature film on St. Stephen’s Day The Secret of Kells.

Lots of specials for all the family not to be missed on RTÉjr this Christmas.

Christmas CAKE (Culture and Arts of Kids & Everyone), RTÉ Radio 1 & RTÉjr Radio Simulcast, 3.30pm, Thursday December 24th
Join Abie Philbin Bowman  for a special edition of Christmas Cake ! Golden Globe nominee Brian Byrne composes a Christmas melody with a young listener. We create a soundscape of Christmas  and some children explore a bookshop and come across popular Christmas titles old and new.

 

Classical Kids, Sunday 20th December , 7am, RTÉjr Radio

We’ve been reliably informed that Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, so join us this morning for lots of Christmas fun including a singalong with The Muppets. We’ll also hear the magical story of the Night Before Christmas told by Risteárd Cooper with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gavin Maloney, and music written for Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck.

Little Pages, Sunday December 6th, 11.15am RTEjr Radio.
Presented by Yvette Poufong.
Poor Little Snow Bear has nowhere to go and is plodding along in the cold winter snow, until he spots a house in the distance, where a lonely little girl lives. Yvette is joined by seven year old Katie O’Connell from Co. Kildare to review the heartwarming Snow Bear, by Tony Mitton and Alison Brown.

Join Emma O Driscoll for an original Christmas story everyday at 11.30am on RTÉjr Radio. Stories of wonder, magic and Christmas spirit weaved together with music and sounds to create a wonderful  festive feel…..

Join Aedin Gormley for a Musical Chairs Christmas Special on RTÉjr Radio. Aedin chooses her favourite Christmas movie music  from the world of children’s film.

Larry Gogan guest presents Musical Chairs today and brings us his favourite Christmas tunes ever !

Classical Kids (Christmas Day special),7am ,  25th December , RTÉjr Radio,

If you’re up early opening presents this Christmas morning then join us on Classical Kids as we include music and stories including the enchanting story of The Snowman, with music by Howard Blake. We’ll also hear some of the junior and school choir entries for this years Choirs for Christmas competition, and we’ll hear of the adventures of Clara in the land of sweets, in Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.

The Stripy Pyjamas, New Years Day , January 1st 2016, 3pm
An original play about  a pair of stripy pyjamas and  the adventures they get up to.  Written and Produced by Ann Dalton.
