THE POETRY PROGRAMME

Image Name:

In the Poetry Programme this week, Rick O’Shea meets poet and novelist Nick Laird and finds out that celtic mythology continues to influence Irish poetry today.

Nick Laird is one of a new generation of poets from Northern Ireland. Laird’s poems have been described as ‘elegant, economical, concerned with language and form, and utterly unsentimental – but never afraid of real feeling’. He has published three collections and regularly has work published in the New Yorker.
Celtic myths and legends have inspired and infused Irish poetry for centuries. Rick meets Adam Wyeth, poet and author of ‘The Hidden World of Poetry: unveiling celtic mythology in contemporary Irish poetry’, about how celtic stories and images continue to inspire Irish poets today.
