The South African freedom fighter, lawyer, teacher and politician, Kader Asmal, lived in exile in Dublin for nearly three decades. With the release of Nelson Mandela from prison in 1990, Asmal returned home to South Africa. There, he stood for parliament, serving in cabinet under both Mandela and Thabo Mbeki.
The effects of his work had far reaching consequences for the establishment of equity and human rights in the new South Africa.
This documentary takes a close look at his contribution to freedom in South Africa from the time he returned until his death in 2011.
