Episode Four – The Wedding

As the popularity in country music takes root, manys a budding bride is putting a country theme at the heart of her big day. Enter Fiona Forkan – a wedding planner with a difference who specialises in themed weddings. Put her together with a country music bride and we have the recipe for the country music wedding of the year – packed full of hay bales and tractors, a jiving priest and Ireland’s country music glitterati.

In this episode we join Crystal Swing’s Dervla Burke in the build up to her very own country themed wedding.

Family band Crystal Swing from Co. Cork hit the big time in 2010 when their song ‘He Drinks Tequila’ went viral on social media, such was their success that they appeared on chat shows on both sides of the Atlantic playing to millions of viewers.

Dervla and brother Derek are at the heart of the band’s success and are very much part of the country music revival in Ireland.

Derek’s famous double jointed dancing has thrilled audiences across Ireland – kick starting a huckle buck craze which is now all the rage on the country music dance floors.

We get to know Crystal Swing in the tense weeks before the wedding when Dervla sets her heart on a country music themed wedding and engages the services of Kildare’s own Fiona Forkan in making this fairy tale come true.

We meet Derek at home in Lisgoold where he indulges his love for vintage tractors and plans a tractor surprise for his sister’s wedding procession to the church. We meet the nervous bridegroom Tim, a quiet farmer with no interest in country music or dancing. We see how he gets on when Derek teaches him some dance moves to impress Dervla on the big day.

And we meet the ‘Jiving Priest’ Fr. Pat Butler from Co. Tipperary, a country music fanatic with a very simple philosophy;

‘Country Music is good for the soul’

Welcome to the surprising world of Irish country music.
