MAKERS

Makers       15 x 5’  & 3 X 22’   BAI – Preschool  Crafts

Makers is a unique series about Irish crafts made especially for young children. Three of Ireland’s top craftspeople – weaver Beth Moran (Clare Island, Co.Mayo), ceramicist Gráinne Watts (Wicklow) and woodturner Glenn Lucas (Carlow) – will demonstrate their craft to the young audience, beginning with the sourcing of local materials and following through to the finished work.  The series is designed to feed into the young audience’s natural curiosity and its growing understanding of both the physical world and the artistic process itself. Seeing and touching the materials is a very important part of the craftmaking process and we will see our featured individuals take raw materials – a log of wood, some wool from a sheep, clay from the earth – and form these into beautiful, often functional objects. Makers was produced and directed by Julian Hills and researched by Sheila Ahern. It was made in partnership with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland. Supported by BAI funding. The series will also feature on the RTÉjr website and mobile app.
