Ireland’s historic win over Germany peaks at more than 1.1 Million viewers

An average of 786,600* people watched RTÉ2’s live coverage of Ireland’s dramatic 1-0 win over Germany last night giving a 48.73% share.

The audience peaked at more than 1.1 million (1.122m) between 9.30-9.45pm as viewers tuned in to watch Ireland see out a famous victory and catch RTÉ2’s post-match analysis featuring John Giles, Liam Brady and Eamon Dunphy.

Some 920,000 viewers were watching RTÉ2 when Shane Long scored Ireland’s winning goal.

In total, almost 1.6million viewers tuned in to RTÉ2 throughout the course of last night’s Euro 2016 qualifier coverage**.

An additional 71,655 watched the match via the live stream on RTÉ Player.

The result puts Ireland on equal points with Poland as the team travels to Warsaw to face the Poles in our final Euro 2016 qualifier on Sunday. RTÉ2’s coverage of Poland Vs Ireland on Sunday starts at 7.00pm, with kick-off at 7.45pm. Commentary comes from George Hamilton and Ronnie Whelan.
