Nationwide  – Monday 21st September, 7.00pm on RTÉ One

August and September are busy months for tillage farmers with everyone wanting the harvesting contractors at the same time but for one small group of farmers their harvest was way back in March when contractors were only too delighted to have some extra work.  Tonight on Nationwide, Mary Kennedy goes to a farm in Co. Carlow to see the Miscanthus crop being harvested.

Also on the programme, reporter Helen McInerney visits the Lawlor family in Durrow, Co. Laois, who have been growing prize-winning vegetables and flowers for generations, and reporter Valerie Waters visits the local people of Ruben Street in Dublin’s city centre who are fortunate to have a thriving community garden and an eye catching Geo-Dome – the first of its kind in a community run space.

Nationwide – Friday 25th September, 7.00pm on RTÉ One

On tonight’s Nationwide, reporter Helen McInerney travels to Wexford Town, the location for the new RTÉ four-part drama,  Clean Break. Written by Wexford writer Billy Roche, it “tells the tale of a Wexford Community driven by love greed, status and revenge”.  Helen speaks to Billy and some of the local actors about the exciting new drama.

In county Waterford,  RTÉ’s South East correspondent Damien Tiernan visits Waterford Crystal for a look at one of our most iconic brands. A few years ago people thought it might have been lost forever but Waterford Crystal is now growing again to the heart of Ireland’s oldest city.  Some of the master cutters and blowers from “The Glass”, as the old Company was fondly known as locally, now work in the House of Waterford Crystal and this time last year, ten young people were taken on as apprentices, the first of their kind in two decades.  Damien  finds out how they have being getting on.

Finally in the programme, there’s a look-ahead to the 2015 Tidy Towns Competition. The awards will be announced at a special presentation ceremony in Dublin’s Helix theatre on Monday.  There are over 800 locations entered and Nationwide finds out about the competition and about how to win.
