This first of two programmes examining the work of singer, folksong collector, dramatist and broadcaster Ewan McColl on the occasion of the centenary of his birth in January 2015.  We hear from Clare-based song collectors Jim Carroll and Pat Mackenzie who were members of McColl’s renowned singers collective The Critics Group in London of the 1960s and 70s and were friends of McColl and his wife, the singer, Peggy Seeger. They reveal recordings from their personal archive highlighting his contribution to folk singing and the importance of Irish songs, music and experience in McColl’s work.
