Today, we will hear the second programme featuring extracts from Proinsias Ó Conluain’s diary written on Tory Island in 1956.  Today, topics covered include descriptions of the houses on the island, the lack of proper sewerage facilities, loneliness at night, and the special clay on Tory Island which banished rats and kept people safe at sea.  We also learn about snaring of birds and the islanders’ names for some of the birds, we’ll hear recordings of John Tom Ó Mianáin, the school choir, Treasa Mhic Fhlaibheartaigh, and more example of unusual words and expressions found on Tory.  Ó Conluain took photos on this recording trip, and a selection of these can be seen on the Siúlach Scéalach webpage at www.rte.ie/rnag, and on the Raidió na Gaeltachta Facebook.  Edited/Presented/Produced by Ian Lee.  Reader Brian Mullen.
