THANK GAA IT’S FRIDAY

The show’s creators bring you the complete weekly GAA package; containing characters, games, fascinating stories and communities both at home and abroad.

For the third consecutive year, Monaghan face Donegal in the Ulster final. We caught up with the longest serving intercounty footballer, Monaghan’s Dick Clerkin, as he supervises the Farney Army’s Ulster title charge. Now in his 16th year with his county, Dick brings us to the site of his new house to give us an insight into the building blocks of Monaghan’s recent form.

The Connacht final sees Sligo play Mayo 40 years after a Mickey Kearins-inspired Yeats County famously won a replay in MacHale Park. But that day was a watershed for Mayo football as well. All-Ireland wins at minor and U21 level, in 1971 and 1974 respectively, should have established the base for a successful decade at senior. But that fateful defeat would have a profound impact on that generation, as John O’Mahony, JP Kean, Willie McGee and Seån Kilbride reveal.

With Sligo going for their first Connacht title since 2007, we look back at that day with former midfielder Kieran Quinn. A year later, Kieran swapped the black and white jersey for black and white piano keys. A natural performer on and off the pitch, Kieran takes us back to his finest moment for Sligo, when they toppled a fancied Galway side for their first provincial title since 1975.

And after conceding that last-gasp point to Kerry, can Brian Cuthbert’s Rebels bounce back to claim the Munster football title? The sides have to do it all over again in Killarney but will Cork regret not being able to topple the Kingdom first time around?

So join us on Friday 17th July at 8:30pm on RTÉ 2 for another action packed show. The show will be repeated at the weekend before the big game on RTÉ 2.
