Music documentaries have been a staple of the film industry since the 1960’s, encompassing all possible styles – from the deadly serious (“Gimme Shelter”) to the insightful (“The Filth & The Fury”), from the sublime (“Twenty Feet From Stardom”) to the ridiculous/genius/is this for real? (“This Is Spinal Tap”).  Now the IFI are are dedicating a week in July to Rock ‘n’ Roll Cinema, starting on the 21st of July with a tribute to the great guitarist in “The Ecstasy Of Wilko Johnson”, British punk band The Damned wonder “Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead” on the 23rd and the Washington DC punk scene of the 1980s is the setting for “Salad Days” on the 24th.  On today’s programme we get a preview of what film and music fans can expect if they drop along to Eustace Street at any stage that week.
