DRAMA ON ONE

‘Serenity’ by Andy Burns
The first runner up in RTÉ’s annual playwrighting competition, the PJ O’Connor Awards. In this sensitive portrait, Niall remembers the key episodes in his own alcohol-dominated life, his ambivalent relationship with the 12 step process, his hopes about a new romance and his escapism into pub quiz trivia. A relationship with Susan brings hope, but Niall’s illness threatens to bring him ever closer to catastrophe. Starring Peter Coonan as Niall, with Tony Tormey, Stephen Jones, Paul Tylak, Áine Ní Mhuirí, Jennifer O’Dea, Hilda Fay, and Kathy Rose O’Brien. Producer: Kevin Brew.

In The Wings (8.45pm)
A special month-long focus on four of the different amateur dramatic societies who make up part of the countrywide network that is the Drama League of Ireland. This week’s featured company is Estuary Players whose production of The Drawer Boy by Michael Healy, directed by Myra Maguire, was first runner up at the 63rd RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival.
