Hardy Bucks return to RTÉ2

Eddie & The Viper are back on screens this autumn – together with exciting new love interests

The wild men of Irish comedy, the Hardy Bucks, are back on RTÉ2 this autumn. And in this series, they are joined by well known Irish actresses – Fair City’s Aoibheann McCaul and Susan Loughnane from Love/Hate.

Building on the success of their feature film, The Hardy Bucks Movie, the boys have begun filming six new episodes in Swinford, Co. Mayo.

All the gang are back, Martin Maloney as Eddie Durkan, Chris Tordoff as The Viper, and Owen Colgan as Buzz McDonnall – and in-between the usual mayhem and bad behaviour, the lads get caught up in a Mayo love triangle. The Viper tries to come to terms with a broken heart whilst running his new business venture. Eddie and Buzz may or may not have met the women of their dreams, Frenchtoast may or may not be back on the sauce and Boo and Koffi may or may not be getting married.

Hardy Bucks Producer and Director Mike Cockayne commented: “It’s great to be back filming again, we’re like family now and I really feel that this series will be the best yet. The lads are all on top form and the biggest challenge we’re going to face is fitting all of this great material into a half hour.”

Channel Controller for RTÉ2 Bill Malone said: “RTÉ2 is passionate about creating original Irish comedy and I’m delighted to announce that Hardy Bucks is returning to RTÉ2 for a third series. After the success of their feature film, viewers will get to see what’s next for the Hardy Bucks crew.”

Notes to the Editor:

Hardy Bucks won StoryLand, RTÉ’s drama competition, in 2009 and the web series became an online phenomenon and an instant word-of-mouth favourite.

In autumn 2010, RTÉ2 brought the online adventures of Eddie Durkan and company to a new and wider audience in a three-part Hardy Bucks serial. This was followed by a Christmas special and second series of 6 episodes in November 2011. Last year, the Hardy Bucks The Movie followed the gang of slackers from the west of Ireland as they set out on a last minute road trip to watch their national football team compete in the 2012 European Championships in Poland.

Filmed in Swinford, Co Mayo, Hardy Bucks follows the lives of four lazy but likeable lads from the fictional Castletown.

Written by and starring Martin Moloney as Eddie Durkan and Chris Tordoff as ‘The Viper’, and also written by and produced by Mike Cockayne, Hardy Bucks features Peter Cassidy, Owen Colgan and Tom Kilgallon, plus an eclectic cast of extras from Swinford and beyond.
