Musical Chairs, Monday 20th April at 12pm

Ian McGlynn is back with a brand new series of Musical Chairs Goes Classical, The Orchestral Families. An orchestra is made up of many different instruments, and sometimes it can be difficult to tell one from another. On The Orchestral Families we’re making it very easy by taking a close look and listen to the different sections of the orchestra, which we call families. We’ll find out which instruments look similar and make their music in the same way, and we’ll listen to great music performed by a quartet of wind instruments, a simple symphony of string instruments, a cacophony of percussion instruments, a concerto of keyboard instruments and a fanfare of brass instruments. Today we’ll learn about a very musical family – the String Family. We’ll learn about the violin, viola, cello, bass and harp, and we’ll hear them play wonderful music by the great composers including JS Bach, Saint-Saens and Britten. Join Ian this Monday at 12pm and 5pm on RTÉjr Radio.
