DRAMA ON ONE: Judgement

JUDGEMENT
A version of Plato’s Crito by Aidan Mathews with John Kavanagh as Socrates and Raymond Scannell as Crito.
Easter’s a time for the passion narratives, Saint John’s plus one synoptic account each and every Holy Week from year to year; but the four Christian gospels can sometimes obscure an earlier, evangelical quartet of texts that commemorates a martyrdom which was Greek and not Jewish. Plato’s fourfold story of the death of his teacher, Saint Socrates, is the other strand in the double helix of our Western DNA, and Judgement, a new version of the Crito, rehearses and renews the touching farewell dialogue between a different rabbi and his beloved disciple.
