‘Who Was Vere Foster?’

How many people in Ireland know who Vere Foster was? A remarkable 19th century philanthropist, who changed the lives of young Irish people in ways that have not yet been fully acknowledged. A champion of non-sectarian education, the founding President of the INTO and a supporter of 1,400 primary schools in Ireland. He aided thousands of young women in their search for a better life in North America and invented the famous Vere Foster copybooks, selling millions of copies around the world. Aged 81, having given away all of his personal wealth and property, he died in poverty. ‘Who Was Vere Foster?’ tells his extraordinary story.
