OPERA NIGHT – AGRIPPINA

Agrippina was the first great operatic success of Handel’s Italian period and tells the story of Agrippina, the mother of Nero, as she plots the downfall of the Roman Emperor Claudius and the installation of her son as emperor.

The libretto, considered one of the best that Handel set, is full of topical political allusions-and this particular production takes us in to the TV studios of Dallas and Dynasty, the iconic soap operas of the 1980s!

With sopranos, Ann Hallenberg as Agrippina and Renata Pokupic as Nero leading a huge cast from the Royal Flemish Opera we’re in for spicy mucial evening. Paul McCreesh conducts.
