Three of opera’s greatest composers are in the limelight this year – Verdi, Wagner and Britten. Over the next three weeks we put the focus on Giuseppe Verdi, who revolutionised the form and progressed it from the Bel-canto tradition, expressing emotions in a wholly new way.
Nabucco is his third opera, filled with one great melody after another; where emotions and passions run high and often reaching boiling point!
Tonight’s performance features soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska in the difficult, if thrilling, role of Abigaille, while the legendary Placido Domingo sings Nabucco, King of Babylon.
