The RTÉ Two New Comedy Awards is a nationwide search to find the best in new stand-up comedy talent.
Hosted by Republic of Telly stars Jennifer McGuire and Bernard O’Shea, the final of the series sees the five weekly winners, two judges’ wild cards and one comedian from the public’s online vote, compete for the crown of king or queen of comedy. The winner will receive a trophy and a cheque for €5,000.
A judging panel of industry professionals will choose the winner: Syeda Irtzaali, Commissioning editor for Channel 4 (Alan Carr Chatty Man, The Million Pound Drop, The Last Leg with Adam Hill); Mia Claire Cross – Associate producer on Live At The Apollo (BBC); Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (BBC), Stand Up For The Week (CH 4), 8 Out Of Ten Cats (CH4); and Bill Malone, Channel Controller for RTÉ Two.
The eight comedians in the final are:
Week 1 winner – Tom O’Mahony (Tom ‘The Bear’ O’Mahony, Ireland’s only ex- cage fighter comedian)
Week 2 winner – Andrea Farrell (‘If I was a super hero I’d be Super Sound Friend Girl’)
Week 3 winner – Sean Nolan (loves wakes)
Week 4 winner – Niamh Marron (Niamh Marron is a live wire, inside a firework, on top of a volcano. You’ve been warned)
Week 5 winner – Colm Tyrrell (Colm is considered a Lothario amongst his friends and family as he is only a few lovers away from being on double digits)
Judges’ wildcard – Trevor Browne (a velour wearing, whiskey drinking, woman loving genius. If you doubt him, he will kill you)
Judges’ wildcard – Al Porter (Al Porter considers himself Ireland’s subtlest and manliest comedian. No one else does)
Public Vote – Kevin McGahern
