THE BLUE OF THE NIGHT

Louis Stewart, the recipient of an honorary doctorate from Trinity College Dublin, began his international career in 1968 when he was awarded the special jury prize at The Montreaux International Jazz Festival. And so began a journey that included working with Benny Goodman, a coveted position as a member of Ronnie Scott’s quartet and quintet for several years and a discography dotted with names like George Shearing, Niels-Henning Orsted-Pedersen and Robert Farnon.

More recently there have been duo outings in the company of Heiner Franz and Knut Mikalsen, a 2006 release with Frank Harrison Trio and now we have a new release to look forward to – a duet with Irish jazz piano legend Jim Doherty.

For these and other reasons, primarily because he deserves the spotlight, he’s our chosen artist in Blue Tunes Recommends. Enjoy the selections as Carl and Eamonn showcase our national treasure.

All this week there IS a Doctor in the House – on the Blue… starting at 10pm. And visit the webpage for an exclusive Blue of the Night chat with Louis.
