Sharon Shannon with her band and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra under the baton of David Brophy, recorded at a sell-out show at the National Concert Hall, Dublin in April this year. The show featured much of the material from the album Flying Circus. Recorded between RTE Studio 1 in Dublin and Poet’s Corner in Galway, the album features Sharon Shannon and the RTE Concert Orchestra led by principle conductor David Brophy, along with guitarist Jim Murray, orchestral arrangers Joe Csibi and David Hayes, world renowned sax player Richie Buckley and many more.
The concert also includes many tunes from her back catalogue also arranged for Orchestra.
Sharon has been a musical icon for the past 20 years, achieving several platinum albums and no.1 singles while bringing Irish traditional music to the foreground. She has collaborated with legends such as U2’s Bono and Adam Clayton, Steve Earle, Willie Nelson and Christy Moore amongst a myriad of others. She has toured the world with her Big Band line up featuring guests such as Shane MacGowan, Imelda May, Mundy and Damien Dempsey. Sharon continues to throw herself fearlessly into new projects and genres and this new album with the RTE Concert Orchestra has been a particularly rewarding venture.
In tandem with her musical endeavours, Sharon has been actively involved in animal rights issues in Ireland for more than twenty years. With seven dogs and three cats of her own, she is vocally passionate about the plight of rescue animals and is currently part of a national poster campaign entitled ‘ADOPT DON’T BUY’.. The campaign is an initiative to encourage those who are thinking of getting a family pet to adopt from the hundreds of animal rescues across Ireland, who are caring for an overwhelming amount of surrendered and unwanted animals. As well as supporting her local Galway organisations such as GSPCA and MADRA, she is patron of Animal Heaven Animal Rescue (AHAR)- an all Ireland rescue centre run entirely by volunteers and based in Kerry.
