‘Junior Doctors’ is the story of four young medics year-long internship in St.Vincent’s Hospital. This is the story of the challenges facing them, of the long working hours, of the trials of hospital life and how these four junior doctors faced up to them.
Having achieved some of the highest Leaving Cert points in the country only then to endure six long years in college studying – the day comes when a medical student finally becomes a Doctor.
It’s the 1st of July 2005, Paul Carroll, Paddy Barrett, Catherine deBlacam and Sinéad Beirne start as Interns in St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin.
In the first episode we see the doctors struggle on their first day in their new roles on the lowest rung of the medical ladder as they try to navigate the hospital system and endure their first night ‘on call’- a 36 hour overnight shift.
